MidTex Mapping Services Company Profile
MidTex Mapping Services Co. was established in October 1991 to provide
high-quality cartographic data and software to Geologists, Geophysicists,
and other Engineers. All of our programs, custom programming services, and
custom mapping services include professional work ethics, confidentiality,
and years of consulting experience.

Programming/Design Experience
Custom Software:
- Data Workbench (Electro-Seise, Inc.)
- Graphics and x-y
data manipulation software written for a geophysical survey company
who had proprietary data and specific requirements as to how this
data was to be processed, interpreted, and represented. Some of the
more notable features of this software include:
- Custom routines to produce HPGL output for plotting and
presentation
- Custom algorithms applied to the data
- Multiple sets of data stored into one profile
- Graphics routines that allow ease of visual
processing of the data:
- Stretch, pan, and zoom the data individually, or
bind up to five sets together to track
different data representations over the same
real-earth profile
- Append custom information to the datasets,
attached to precise locations on the curve
- Tag specific curves for volumetric analysis and contouring
- Assign fault locations to be indicated on a map
- Export utilities written to build files for importing into AutoCAD Map 2.0
- Custom help system
- Airborne Data Acquisition System (Electro-Seise, Inc.)
- Real-Time Data Acquisition System written for Airborne
Geophysical data collection. The application is written in such a way that
the operator can concentrate more on the quality of the data being acquired
than on the steps needed to acquire it. This ensures higher quality data
when the job is done. Notable features include:
- Simultaneous acquisition recorded from two sources: The
first is a frequency counter attached to a sensor that
returns digital frequency values, the second is a high-speed
GPS unit used to begin and end acquisition as well as to
track the location of the aircraft along the profile.
- Graphical data representation at the end of each
acquisition cycle that the operator can OK or discard
- Timer routines that ensure a specific sample rate
- Automatic file naming based off of the current profile
reported from the GPS unit
- Texas RRC Conversion Utility (MidTex)
- Converts Texas RRC base maps into
AutoCAD scripts for import into AutoCAD
Commercial Software
- DEM Import Utility (GeoPak, Inc.)
- Wrote a DEM import routine that
is being used in their terrain modeling package.
- Native classes used to read DEM profiles
- Conversion to text x,y,z format
- Allows for Datum, grid, and distance units conversion (NAD27/NAD83,
Lat-Long/UTM/State Plane, Feet/Meters)
- MidTex Mapping Services DLG Reader for AutoCAD
-
Version
1.0 is written as an AutoCAD ADS application for R12, Versions 2.0 and
2.1 are written as ARX applications for R14. The DLG Reader allows
users to take advantage of free mapping data that is on the internet
by importing it directly into AutoCAD's drawing database. Features
include:
- Create custom base maps from 1:100K scale DLGs (freely
available over the internet), or purchase 1:24000 scale (7.5'
quad sheet) DLGs from the USGS
- Convert DLGs from their internal coordinate format into
the popular coordinate systems: NAD27/NAD83, UTM/State
Plane, and feet/meters
- Easy to use interface makes it a snap to pull data into
a new or existing drawing. Coordinate conversion is
straight-forward
- Import DLGs as single files, or as selected files in a
subdirectory. This makes it easy to pull in multiple layers
as well as multiple quads
- On-line help system
- Import names from the Global Names Information System (GNIS)
databases, which are also available over the
Internet
- Contour lines are drawn at proper elevations
- Fully configurable layering schemes
- Multiple layering schemes can be maintained easily
- Single, double, and "fat double-line types", in which
both lines of the double-line may have a width other than 0
- Support for using AutoCAD's and custom line types on
specific layers
- PipeDesigner 3D for AutoCAD (QuickPen International
www.qpi-dal.com)
- 3D modeling software for the engineering and mechanical contracting
industry
- Allows users to model complex piping systems with ease - and without
having to be 3D gurus
- Worked as a consultant on the project, as a designer, engineer, and
programmer
- Product was given high marks in Nov. 2000 issue of CADence magazine
(six 10's and one 9)
Custom Mapping Services:
Our custom mapping solutions currently fall under two categories: Texas
Railroad Commission (RRC) base maps and USGS DLG base maps. The RRC base maps
fill a strong need for Geologists and Geophysicists doing work in Texas by
showing the well locations and land grid in a graphical format that is
easy to overlay, print, and manipulate with AutoCAD and other software
packages. The DLG information is provided for those working in Texas
and/or the rest of the country who need a good vector basemap to start
with.
